Kathy Schmitt was appointed to the Hillsdale County Road Commission (HCRC) in January of 2023 by the Hillsdale County Board of Commissioners after they expanded the HCRC from a 3 to a 5-member board.  The seat that Kathy holds will be up for election in 2024.

Kathy graduated from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business in 1984 and is a Certified Public Accountant for almost 40 years.  She has worked in Hillsdale County for local CPA firms since 1987.   She is a past Hillsdale County Commissioner (budget committee chair), Jonesville School Board Member (president and treasurer), Local Development Finance Authority Board Member (for the City of Jonesville), Hillsdale County 4-H Council Member, Out of Towners 4-H Club Leader, and Alpha-Omega Board Member. Over the years she has also volunteered with the Jonesville Band Boosters, Jonesville Parent Teacher Association, Jonesville Elementary School Buddy Reading Program and VITA Tax Preparation Program.    She also currently serves on the Board of Directors for Lifeways and as a Trustee for the Hillsdale County Parks Commission Board.

Kathy has been married to lifelong Hillsdale County resident Mark Schmitt for over 35 years.  They have four children and one grandchild.  She has been involved in the operation of the small, but successful, family farm and trucking business as well.

All Hillsdale County Road Commissioners serve at large (the whole county), however Kathy has been assigned Fayette, Moscow and Scipio Townships which she reports to monthly at their Township meetings.
